Getting a job and Employment problems

Once you understand the regulations concerning your right to work here (see Can I work here?) then you will need to find out how to go about getting a job. One of the most frequently used organisations for job finding is the Employment Service. This is a government agency and is also the direct route for people who are looking for work but need to claim benefits. You will see the Jobcentre sign in most towns and all cities. Jobcentres are an access point for the Employment Service. However there are other sources of help and you can find some of them listed below.

This link is a BBC site containing useful and comprehensive information on getting a job including job applications and interviews.

The following is the European Job Mobility Portal which gives help and advice on getting work in the UK. The link takes you to the index page which allows you to enter the portal in a range of European languages.

Bangor University - The JobMart

Because it can be hard to find work in an area that is new to you, they take the stress out of job hunting by providing you with their JobMart. The JobMart is a dedicated student employment bureau that helps you find the jobs that let you earn income through casual or part-time work in the local area. The JobMart also receives and advertises vacation jobs and permanent graduate positions that range from north Wales to worldwide opportunities. Enquire at the Students Union

The Commission for Racial Equality will give you more information about legal aspects of discrimination.

The Advisory Conciliation and Arbitration Service (Acas ) may be able to help you settle disputes . More information is available from their site.

Advice Now is an independent organisation that offers a wide range of advice on employment issues.
